TV/Streaming Series
Much of our time recently has been spent on traveling – either getting ready to go on a trip, going on a trip, or recovering from a trip (you know, doing all the little things that have to be done like sorting through the built-up mail, paying bills, reconnecting with local friends, and just catching our breath). And while a major focus of this site is travel, there are lots of other categories of activities that we like and want to share our experiences and opinions on.
I was recently reminded of how much we enjoy some of the series shows that we watch on either TV or on streaming services (we subscribe to Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, Starz, Discover+, and a few others). A friend mentioned that he and his wife were at the last episode of a series I’d recommended and asked if I had any more recommendations. I told him I was sure I could come up with a list and that I’d text it to him. Below is the list I sent him.
First, let me assure you that we don’t spend every waking moment staring at our TV (or any other screen). The list below took us two or three years to watch, although I will admit that we did binge a few of them. Also, this list contains only those shows I thought he’d like based on comments about other shows we’d both enjoyed. I may come back and add others as we watch or remember them.
Second, almost all of what we watch would be considered inappropriate for children (and that’s putting it somewhat mildly). We do watch more wholesome fare when it’s: (a) available, (b) interesting to us, and (c) not too sappy. As I recall, all of the shows on the list have terrible language; some are worse than others. Some (many?) of them have nudity, but I don’t recall any graphic sex scenes (but don’t hold me to that). Finally, every show made in the last few years includes scenes or references – or at least innuendo – designed to normalize behavior that Evangelical Christians will likely find objectionable. You’ve been warned.
Finally, many of the shows that we watch are in a foreign language (that is, not originally in English). When the original language for a show was something other than English, we usually only watch it if it’s dubbed (Andy reads so slowly that he can’t keep up with both subtitles and the video at the same time).
